An E-Tax Internet Filing System Incorporating Security and Usability Best Practices - Prototype Implementation of the Best Practices Identified in Government and Commercial E-Tax Filing Websites in the USA for Tax Season of 2003

چکیده
We describe a prototype system we have developed that incorporates best practices identified from a 2003 study of both public and private E-tax filing websites hosted in the USA. Our motivation is to investigate the current low functionality and low penetration usage of online tax filing, an increasingly important webapplication. We identify critical security and usability features in current use on E-tax filing websites (and use these features) as well as new features not found on these E-tax filing websites. We conclude that while appropriate and correctly implemented technology will make a website secure, in practice it is the website look-and-feel which has the most influence on a user’s perception of usability and security.
